Privacy information
How this website, email contact and optional video handle personal data.
Updated: 15 September 2026
Who is responsible?
Isabelle-Constance Opalinski personally operates Arctic Policy, an editorial and research website based in Switzerland. For questions about personal data, write to info@arctic-politics.com.
Visiting this website
Your browser sends technical information, including your IP address, the requested page and browser information, to the hosting infrastructure so that the website can be delivered. Arctic Policy uses Sites hosting with Cloudflare infrastructure. Technical information is processed to deliver the website and protect it against errors and misuse.
Contact by email
If you email the editor, your address, message and any attachments are processed to respond to your enquiry. The domain mailbox is hosted by netcup. Incoming messages are also forwarded to the editor’s Gmail mailbox, with a copy retained at netcup. Please do not send sensitive information that is unnecessary for your enquiry.
Optional YouTube video
The video player is blocked until you select “Load YouTube video”. Before that selection, this website does not load the YouTube player or a thumbnail from Google. Once activated, the privacy-enhanced YouTube player connects to Google and sends technical information, including your IP address. Google can process viewing activity and store information on your device. Select “Disconnect YouTube” to remove the player and stop further player connections on this page; this does not erase information already received by Google. Your choice is not saved between visits.
Analytics and other external services
Arctic Policy has not installed Google Analytics, advertising trackers or a newsletter signup. Search and topic filters run within the website. Research listings are retrieved from Crossref by the website’s server, not directly by your browser. External links connect you to the linked provider when you follow them; that provider’s privacy information then applies.
Storage and international processing
Email correspondence is kept in the mailboxes described above. Retention and international processing also depend on the services used: netcup for email, Google for forwarded email and activated videos, and Sites/Cloudflare for hosting. These services can involve processing outside Switzerland. Their privacy information is linked below. Specific hosting-log retention periods and the applicable international-transfer arrangements are still being clarified.
Your choices and rights
You can read the website without activating the video or sending an email. Contact Isabelle-Constance Opalinski to request information about your personal data or to request correction or deletion. Requests are assessed under applicable data-protection law. You can also contact the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner.
