Visiting this website
Your browser sends technical information, including your IP address, the requested page and browser information, to the hosting infrastructure so that the website can be delivered. Arctic Policy uses Sites hosting with Cloudflare infrastructure. Technical information is processed to deliver the website and protect it against errors and misuse.
Contact by email
If you email the editor, your address, message and any attachments are processed to respond to your enquiry. Messages sent to info@arctic-politics.com pass through netcup’s email-forwarding service and are forwarded to the editor’s personal Gmail mailbox. The personal Gmail address is not published on this website. Please do not send sensitive information that is unnecessary for your enquiry.
YouTube videos
YouTube players load automatically on pages containing videos, without an initial load-button click. Playback is not started automatically. The privacy-enhanced YouTube player connects to Google when the page loads and sends technical information, including your IP address. Google can process viewing activity and store information on your device. Select “Disconnect YouTube” to remove that embedded player from the current page. This does not erase information already received by Google or disconnect other players. Your choice is not saved between visits.
Analytics and other external services
Arctic Policy uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand visits, page views, approximate visitor countries, referring websites, device types and page performance. Your browser loads Cloudflare’s analytics script and sends technical page-view and performance information to Cloudflare. Cloudflare states that Web Analytics does not use cookies or local storage for analytics and does not fingerprint individual visitors. The editor sees aggregate statistics, not visitors’ names or exact addresses. Google Analytics, advertising trackers and a newsletter signup are not installed. Search and topic filters run within the website. Research listings are retrieved from Crossref by the website’s server, not directly by your browser. External links connect you to the linked provider when you follow them; that provider’s privacy information then applies.
Storage and deletion
Email copies, technical hosting logs and analytics have different retention periods. A fixed deletion schedule for the editor’s correspondence, any additional mailbox copy at netcup and the retention periods of this site’s hosting logs are not yet confirmed. Provider deletion procedures below do not establish how long the editor keeps an enquiry before deleting it.
Gmail: once a message is moved to Trash, Google says it is removed from Trash after 30 days unless permanently deleted sooner. This period starts at deletion, not when the email is received. Gmail deletion information
Google’s general retention policy says removal from its systems usually takes around two months, with possible delays, and encrypted backups can retain data for up to six months. Certain data may be kept longer for specified security or legal purposes. Google retention policy
Cloudflare Web Analytics: Cloudflare documents seven days of unsampled analytics data and access to the preceding six months of statistics. The dashboard’s availability period is not a deletion guarantee for all hosting, security or backup records. Cloudflare analytics documentation
Your choices and rights
Video providers receive technical data automatically on pages containing their embedded players. You can disconnect individual players using the controls beside them. Contact Isabelle-Constance Opalinski to request information about your personal data or to request correction or deletion. Requests are assessed under applicable data-protection law. Processing outside Switzerland
The services used for hosting, analytics, email and embedded videos can process data outside Switzerland, including in the United States. Google describes worldwide server processing. OpenAI’s European privacy policy describes processing in the United States and other provider locations. These are provider disclosures, not confirmation of a particular storage region for this website.
Cloudflare states that it primarily stores information in the United States and the European Economic Area, with access possible elsewhere. For transfers from Switzerland to the United States, it describes reliance on the Swiss–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and, where applicable, contractual safeguards. Cloudflare privacy policy

Instagram reel
The Instagram player loads without an initial load-button click. The browser may defer the connection until the player approaches the visible area of the page. Playback is not started automatically by this website. Loading connects to Instagram (Meta), which receives technical information including your IP address and browser information. Meta may process viewing activity, store information on your device and associate activity with an account you are signed into. Processing may take place outside Switzerland. “Disconnect Instagram” removes the embedded player; it does not erase data already received by Meta. Your choice is not saved between visits.
